Neighbourhood Splantzia quarter
Welcome to Splantzia - one of the most charming districts of Chania, just behind the old harbour. Here you will find winding alleyways, lovingly restored houses and shady courtyards waiting to be explored. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chania really does have its very own magic - you'll understand it as soon as you get here.
Splantzia is like a living history book where the past meets the present. The atmosphere combines the charm of times gone by with a modern, lively flair. It feels like a small village in the middle of the city, and yet you are only a few steps away from the lively harbour. This is exactly what makes the location of Linda's Convent Garden Homes so special.
The heart of the neighbourhood? Clearly the Splantzia - or, as the locals say, the Plateia 1821, where life pulsates: surrounded by cosy cafés and traditional tavernas, with a good dose of history in the air.
Take a look at the Venetian bell tower and the Turkish minaret - the two are like silent sentinels of time. And don't worry if you get a little lost while exploring the winding paths - that's just part of the experience here. After a few minutes' walk, you'll be back on the Koum Kapi waterfront anyway. Day or night, there's always something to experience here - from cool cafés and restaurants to an exciting nightlife.
At night, the harbour promenade is a real eye-catcher, but in the morning it's completely different - perfect for a dip in the cool water. This is an absolute must! The water is clear and shallow and swimming is a pleasure, especially in the morning. You share the waves with the locals, who also come for a swim every morning.
On Saturdays, you should definitely visit the farmers' market in Minoos Street - just a stone's throw from Koum Kapi. Fresh fruit and vegetables, straight from the Cretan soil - if you've ever tried these tomatoes, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Splantzia is more than history. It's a place where you can take a deep breath, discover new things and feel the warmth of the people. Stroll through the alleyways, sample the tavernas and let yourself be carried away by the rhythm of this neighbourhood. Your time here will be something very special. Have fun!
